New Zealand's North Island

Where would you start to see this stunning country in the south? So much beauty and wild natural surroundings, with plenty of history from the Maori indigenous people, to the first settlers from Europe. Where are the best places to visit?

Auckland

Auckland is based around 2 large harbours. The iconic Sky Tower in the city centre has views of Viaduct Harbour, a marina full of superyachts lined with bars and cafes. The city’s oldest park, Auckland domain, is based around an extinct volcano and is the place to go to see the formal Wintergardens.

Taupo, Rotorua and the Bay of Islands

Picturesque bays, beautiful turquoise waters, dolphin watching, boating of all kinds, and many islands to visit. What is there not to like about it? Lake Taupo is picturesque and a great place to take a boat ride. Rotorua, set on Lake Rotorua is known for its geothermal activity and Maori culture, bubbling mud pools and the 30m-tall Pohutu Geyser, which erupts many times daily. It is also home to a Maori village and the New Zealand Maori Arts and Crafts Institute, with traditional wood carving and weaving schools.

The Bay of Plenty

Definitely one of the most beautiful places on the North Island, with Mount Maunganui and Tauranga and some great beaches, especially the beach which is framed by Mount Maunganui. making ti a a spectacular location.

Coromandel Peninsula

The Coromandel Peninsula with its fantastic scenery, cliffs and mountains with more sandy beaches is another of the gems of this region. Cathedral cove, hot water beach and stunning scenery are just waiting for you to enjoy this region.

Hobbiton

Definitley the place to go if you love the Lord of the Rings. This is the set of The Shire films where you can visit the Hobbit village. For those who are not fans, it is still a visit with a great tour and spectacular views.

Wellington

A pretty town set on the cost with great views and Mount Victoria, where you can take a cable car to the top. A compact city, it encompasses a waterfront promenade, sandy beaches, a working harbour and colourful timber houses on surrounding hills. With the Zealndia Eco-sancturay, cable car and botanic gardens, as well as the interesting Te Papa museum, there is plenty to see here.
