River Murray Houseboat Walking Tour
Enjoy this guided multi-day walking tour with houseboat accommodation on the river Murray - ecotourism at its very best! Your passionate guide will lead you through a divese and beautiful landscape, sharing the history, culture and environmental challenges the region faces. At night your chef delivers a 3-course meal, showcasing local produce and Riverland wine. Finish each day's walking with a cooling foot dip in the Murray River, or take a relaxing spa under the starry sky. Be amazed by the canopy of stars filling every inch of the sky above, right down to the horizon, with brilliant reflections on the water.
Dine and relax each night aboard a comfortable houseboat configured with 5 rooms (each room sleeps 2 people, queen bed or 2 singles), 2 bathrooms with hot showers, a spacious lounge, modern kitchen and top deck area with spa and spectacular views. The houseboat moves each day to your daily walking destination, you only need to unpack once as you keep the same room for the entire journey.
Operating in such a delicate environment, houseboats are the perfect accommodation for maintaining a low impact on the river system that we are passionate about conserving. Our ‘leave no trace’ approach includes no built infrastructure on the riverbanks and removing all waste for recycling or disposal.
The cruiser is a comfortable 12 seater “open air” pontoon style boat like a mobile couch on water. It is a stable, secure and quiet craft, navigated expertly by your guide along the mighty Murray River. The pontoon boat transfers you between the daily walking route and the houseboat and is a great way to see wildlife on the river and in the creeks.
Murray River Walk is relatively flat and rated as easy to moderate. Daily distances are 10 to 14 km with a total of 40 km over 3 days. There are 2 gentle ascents and descents up and down a 40 metre cliff face. We stop along the way for morning tea and lunch, walking for up to 6 hours per day. Our walking pace is moderate and designed to allow you to enjoy the diverse river landscapes, wildlife and the people you are walking with. There’s plenty of time to take photos and savour the view.
